NOTE: Seating space at this location is very limited and there is no standing room. Tickets for shows taking place here should be reserved ahead of time as they are almost always sold-out at the door.

The Shaw Mansion was once the home of the wealthy merchant, Captain Nathaniel Shaw, who began building the granite mansion in the 1750s. During the Revolutionary War, the mansion served as Connecticut’s Naval Office. The house and grounds were owned by five generations of the Shaw family before being sold to the Historical Society in 1907. The mansion offers a unique combination of a family collection intimately tied to the region’s history, and an early collection of resources focused on the entire county.

The Hempsted Houses comprises two buildings: the 1678 Joshua Hempsted House and the 1759 Nathaniel Hempsted House. The Joshua Hempsted House is a frame building and is one of New England’s oldest and best-documented dwellings.
